Eyelid Surgery in Manhattan, NYC
If droopy, saggy eyelids are making you look tired or even angry, it may be time to consider eyelid surgery. Performed in our convenient Manhattan cosmetic surgery center by board-certified Manhattan plastic surgeon and general surgeon Richard W. Swift, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.S., eyelid surgery highlights and accentuates your eyes while diminishing wrinkles and fine lines.

What Is Eyelid Surgery ?
As men age, the skin tends to sag and lose its elasticity. It can collect in bags, wrinkles and bulges under the eyes. Sagging of the eyelids above the eyes makes the eyelids droop, causing a tired appearance. Sagging upper eyelids can also interfere with vision.

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) uses state-of-the-art surgical methods to remove these signs of aging and produce a more vibrant, energetic and youthful look. Eyelid surgery only affects the eyelids; it does not remove crow’s feet or lines between the eyebrows. However, other procedures such as brow lifts and Botox® injections can be done in combination with eyelid surgery to produce an even more youthful look.

Benefits of Eyelid Surgery
The effects of aging on the eyelids can make men look fatigued, depressed and even angry. Men who undergo eyelid surgery report that they feel younger and more energetic as well as looking younger and more vibrant. They have greater self-esteem and an improved self-image to go along with their new, refreshed, energetic and vibrant outer look. Not looking tired and depressed can be quite an advantage in both career and social settings.

Eyelid Surgery Before and After
We have an extensive catalog of “before and after” pictures that will give you some idea of what eyelid surgery can do for you. Because cosmetic surgery is tailored to each individual, in order to be sure that eyelid surgery is right for you we suggest consulting with Dr. Swift to discuss various procedures and what they can do for you.

How is Eyelid Surgery Performed?
Dr. Swift begins the eyelid surgery by making an incision on the inner lid and carrying it to the outer edge of the eye. Because the incision is made in the natural line of your eye, scarring is almost nonexistent. At this point, Dr. Swift removes any excess skin, fat or muscle to achieve optimum eyesight.

Preparing for Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery uses local anesthesia and sedation. Most procedures take around an hour, and the patient can go home the same day. Upper eyelid surgery requires a tiny incision in the crease of the upper eyelid and sutures to pull the skin back into its original position. For lower eyelid surgery, an incision is made just below the eyelashes. Excess tissue is removed and the tissues are tightened and smoothed to remove sagging and puffiness.

Eyelid Surgery Recovery
Normal daily activities can be resumed after about 3 to 5 days, and you can return to work after 10 days. Full recovery takes one or two months. Contact lens cannot be worn for at least two weeks after the procedure, and eyedrops will have to be applied daily for a few weeks. Ice compresses can be applied to the area to help with swelling. You won’t feel much pain during the recovery period, but you will feel that your eyelids are tight and swollen. They may look bruised for several weeks after the procedure.

Is Eyelid Surgery Right for Me?
If you are concerned that you look depressed and fatigues all of the time, or feel that the sagging, wrinkled skin around your eyes makes you look much older than you feel, eyelid surgery may be exactly what you need. Make an appointment today for an evaluation by Dr. Swift to see if eyelid surgery is what you need to make you feel and look young and vibrant again.

How Much Does Eyelid Surgery Cost?
Costs for your eyelid surgery will vary depending on the extent of surgery or the number of treatments needed to achieve your desired result. Most insurance plans do not cover plastic surgery or specific cosmetic treatments. Dr. Swift accepts payment via cash, check, or credit card, as well as Alphaeon Healthcare Lending as a financing option.
