Breast Implants

Breast Implants in Manhattan, NYC
For many women, having breast augmentation surgery, or breast implants, is a decision that transforms their lives. Trust this important, and highly delicate procedure to the skilled, expert hands of board-certified Manhattan plastic surgeon and general surgeon Richard W. Swift, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.S. Dr. Swift provides compassionate, comprehensive care to patients in the Manhattan, New York, and Tri-State area.

What are Breast Implants?
The insertion of breast implants, also known as breast augmentation surgery, is the safest, most effective method to enhance the shape, size, volume, and fullness of the breasts. Typically, breast implants consist of pouches filled with fluid, which may be either silicone or saline, and are surgically added to natural breast tissue to alter the breasts’ shape, size, and texture.

Benefits of Breast Implants
Dr. Swift provides several different types of breast implants to choose from, allowing each woman to consider every aspect of her breasts, including shape, cup size, firmness, fullness, and general texture. The benefits of breast implants include:

  • Increased size, volume, firmness, and fullness of breasts.
  • Improved symmetry and overall appearance by correcting discrepancies between the two breasts.
  • Increased confidence and self-esteem.
  • Restored fullness in breasts impacted by pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss.

Saline and Silicone Breast Implants
Dr. Swift’s office, serving the greater Manhattan, New York, and Tri-State area, provides two types of breast implants to choose from: saline or silicone. Based on your particular preference and circumstances, he will help you decide which option is right for you. Both types of implants are FDA-approved for safety, and each offers its own set of benefits.

Generally, saline-filled implants are safest because saline is a natural, non-toxic substance that is harmlessly absorbed by your body if the implant should ever rupture. In the rare case that the implant does rupture, it will be immediately noticeable because the implant will deflate very quickly. Saline implants also require a smaller incision than silicone implants to insert in the breast tissue.

The most advanced saline implants provide a very real look and feel, but some patients feel that silicone still looks and feels more natural. For those patients, Dr. Swift offers the option of silicone implants.

Preparing for Breast Implants
It is natural to be both anxious and excited prior to your breast augmentation procedure. To ease your anxiety, Dr. Swift will take the time to provide you with an accurate idea of what your results will look like, and explain how your overall figure will be affected by the surgery. In preparation for breast implants, remember that many of your clothes, particularly bras, tops, blouses, dresses, and swimsuits, may no longer fit correctly after the breast augmentation.

Recovery from Breast Implant Surgery
Following surgery, Dr. Swift will prescribe two days of rest, bearing in mind that, as with any surgery, swelling, bruising, tenderness, lack of energy, and discomfort are typical symptoms immediately following the procedure. We recommend that someone stay with you immediately after the surgery to help you with meal preparation, housework, and other tasks that may prove painful or difficult for you. Dr. Swift will also recommend that you avoid strenuous physical activity for at least one week.

You will notice some immediate results following your surgery, however, the final results will be noticeable in three to four weeks.

How Much Do Breast Implants Cost?
The costs for your breast implant procedure will vary depending on the extent of surgery. Most insurance plans do not cover plastic surgery or specific cosmetic treatments. Dr. Swift accepts payment via cash, check, or credit card, as well as Alphaeon Healthcare Lending as a financing option.
