HOW IS A FACELIFT PERFORMED?
Dr. Swift begins a facelift by making an incision at the temple line. The incision continues on to the area just above the ear, circles around the earlobe, and returns back to the point of origin. The skin will then be pulled outward for repositioning and tightening. If necessary, Dr. Swift may trim excess fat or skin.

PREPARING FOR A FACELIFT
Dr. Swift will have a specialized set of instructions for your preoperative regime. You have the opportunity to ask questions and address all of your concerns with Dr. Swift and his friendly, professional staff. You may be asked to fast, or avoid eating and/or drinking for a length of time before the surgery. You will need to arrange for a ride home, and may need a family member or friend to help you out for a few days after surgery. Make sure you know your pharmacy and that your pharmacy has your current insurance information, so there are no surprises when you or your care partner tries to pick up any postoperative prescriptions.

FACELIFT RECOVERY
Expect the need to rest frequently. Some disorientation and stomach upset may occur. You will most likely be sent with a prescription for painkillers. Take frequent, small sips of water, and consider taking your pain medicine on a schedule for the first few days. It’s much easier to stay on top of pain than to try to “catch up” with it. If your pain becomes worse, not better in spite of your medication, it is time to place a phone call to Dr. Swift. You may notice bruising, swelling, and tenderness. These should gradually get better, with exception of the bruising. The bruises can turn an array of colors from blue, red, green, black and yellow before fading away in a few weeks, which is perfectly normal. Monitor for increased redness, swelling, heat, pain, warmth, or drainage and contact Dr. Swift if any of these occur.
